Emergency Medical Services

Under the medical direction of Advocate Christ Medical Center, the Oak Lawn Fire Department operates, 3 Advanced Life Support Ambulances staffed with two certified Paramedics each, 24 Hours a day, 365 Days a year.

In addition to the 3 Advanced Life Support ambulances, the fire department responds to all medical calls with a fire engine consisting of at least 4 EMT/B’s or Paramedics to assist the ambulance crew as needed.

The Oak Lawn Fire Department has also partnered with Advocate Christ Medical Center to offer the best possible medical care to the residents of Oak Lawn and the surrounding areas. Through this partnership, the OLFD now has the ability to read and transmit 12 Lead Electrocardiogram’s directly from the field to the Emergency Department. This cutting edge technology enables the paramedics to greatly reduce the time needed to diagnose a heart attack. This can now be accomplished in the field, thus improving the cardiac patient’s chance of survival.

The department also operates 6 Automatic External Defibrillators on each of the 3 Engine Companies, 1 BLS Ambulance, 1 Heavy Rescue Squad, and Battalion Chiefs Vehicle.

In addition to providing excellent care, the Oak Lawn Fire Department provides hands on training for medical residents, trauma nurses, paramedic students, and emergency medical technician students in the form of a Ride-A-Long program in conjunction with the Project Medical Director of Advocate Christ Medical Center.

Paramedics continue their education with monthly training and testing to provide our community with the latest in the changing technology and increasing sophistication in emergency medical advancements.

Throughout the years, the Oak Lawn Fire Department has continued to develop its Paramedic Program which is recognized as one of the areas finest. We are very proud of the service we provide to the Village and its residents.
