Oak Lawn Geographic Information System

In 2008 Oak Lawn embarked on aggressive GIS program with the goal of digitizing and modernizing the way it manages utility atlases, building permits, police data, and a variety of other information. This continually improving mapping system will be used by staff, residents, and businesses to help gather information and make decisions.   The Village now uses the GIS to help track and plan its sewer rehabilitation program, condition of streets, and water main replacements to more efficiently manage Village assets.  A number of commonly requested maps are provided below.

ESRI describes GIS as: a geographic information system (GIS) integrates hardware, software, and data for capturing, managing, analyzing, and displaying all forms of geographically referenced information.  GIS allows us to view, understand, question, interpret, and visualize data in many ways that reveal relationships, patterns, and trends in the form of maps, globes, reports, and charts.  A GIS helps you answer questions and solve problems by looking at your data in a way that is quickly understood and easily shared.
